What better way to celebrate your public lands than taking a hike with friends? Two years ago, State Senator Kerry Donovan sponsored a bill recognizing May 20th as Colorado Public Lands Day, and it passed into law! This year will mark the second annual celebration of what we hope will become a wonderful statewide tradition of honoring our public lands.

To commemorate this special occasion, Wilderness Workshop is leading a free, public hike on Saturday, May 19 on the Arbaney Kittle Trail outside of Basalt. We’ll be convening in the parking lot at 1 p.m. (while the parking lot offers generous space, the Holland Hills bus stop is within walking distance). We’ll hike at a nice pace for about two hours and have a discussion about public lands while enjoying a breathtaking view of Mount Sopris.

After we return to the trailhead, we’ll head over to the Capitol Creek Brewery for a happy hour from 4-6 p.m. Enjoy apps on us and two discounted beers! We’ll be raffling off some great gear from Bristlecone Mountain Sports and they’ll offer discounts on merchandise in their store, which is right across the street. You’ll have the opportunity to learn more about public lands and how you can help take action to protect them. If you plan to attend either the hike or the happy hour (or hopefully both), please RSVP.
