10th Mountain manages a system of 30 backcountry huts in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, connected by 350 miles of suggested routes. We provide a unique opportunity for backcountry skiing, mountain biking, or hiking while staying in safe, comfortable shelter.
The CAIC has 4 offices that issue backcountry avalanche forecasts. The main office is in Boulder, co-located with the National Weather Service. Field offices are located in Breckenridge, Aspen, and the Northern San Juan. Staff at CAIC-Boulder forecast the weather and avalanche conditions for all zones. Field office forecasters concentrate on the snowpack and avalanche conditions within their zones. The CAIC works closely with the Crested Butte Avalanche Center.
Spring Gulch Trail System is operated by the Mount Sopris Nordic Council, a local non-profit organization, and represents a community effort in every sense of that phrase. Access to these trails is made possible due to the generous permission of the North Thompson Cattlemen’s Association and the Crystal River Ranch for use of their land during the winter months.
